Intensive courses

An ’intensive’ is part study-break, part training camp and part riding holiday all rolled in to one. Comprising three or more days of individual lessons twice per day (or, if requested, including an in-hand or groundwork session each day), an intensive with us is an opportunity to make a significant improvement in your riding, handling and training skills in a very short space of time - oh, and it’s also a lot of plain old good fun!

The aim of an intensive is to give you, the rider, an opportunity to focus deeply on any (or every!) aspect of equitation, and we will work in partnership with you to design an individual program that explores your areas of particular interest. Once we have an understanding of your hopes and desires, we will agree a mutually convenient time and duration for the intensive itself and you can choose to bring your own horse(s), learn from our trained horses or enjoy a combination of both.

The whole experience will be about much more than just the lessons, however. In addition to riding you may be reading, watching, asking questions and generally living as part of the Holistic Equitation team. You will be encouraged to watch us teaching other lessons, working client’s horses in training or undertaking specialised hoof conditioning, as well as observing livery clients working with their own horses.

If you are a beginner or nervous rider, you will find an intensive has an amazing effect on your balance and confidence in the saddle as well as your ability to direct and stop your horse without the use of force in the aids.

If you are a more experienced rider you will find that seat work with us will help you establish a sense of balance beyond anything you have experienced before and that very precise work with the aids - integrating groundwork, work in-hand, lunging, long-reining, riding and schooling into one holistic system - brings ’advanced’ riding within the reach of any educated rider on any sound horse.

If you are travelling from abroad, the Centre is within easy reach of international airports in Birmingham, London or Luton. We have excellent facilities including a 60x20 indoor school, modern stables with extensive turnout and a comfortable common room where you can relax between sessions. Bed & breakfast is available onsite and there are many more possibilities in the local area.

Prices and booking

Lessons on intensives are charged at £40.00 plus an additional £5.00 per lesson if you are exclusively riding our school horses. There is no additional charge for use of school horses during intensives if you bring your own horse as well. During the course of the intensive you may have some seat work lessons in conjunction with other students. You will always have at least one individual lesson per day.
